The IRS began processing tax returns Monday, January 23, 2023. This officially kicked off the tax season and we are in full return preparation mode here at Tax Debt Services. The IRS is expediting nearly 168 million returns to be filed this year, so don’t delay if you are ready to file.
File, File, File
There is no need to delay your tax return. There is even more not a reason to not file at all. If you are deciding to not file because you will owe, that is the wrong mindset and incorrect conclusion. It is far better to file a return with a balance owed, than to not file a required return. If money is an issue, file your tax return with one of the many free e file services, such as the IRS’ Free File. Don’t let a preparer’s fee stand in the way of remaining in good standing with the IRS.
Deadlines
This year, the tax deadline is April 18, 2023. If you file your return on the 19th, you are late. However, there have been many natural disasters throughout the country recently, and so if you were in a declared natural disaster county, your return would be due May 15, 2023. Be sure to seek advice in making that determination.
Compliance
One of our favorite words in the tax resolution industry is “compliance”. Compliance with the IRS means filing what needs to be filed on time. Every year a new “to do” shows up with the new tax season and anyone that is required to file a return, needs to file to remain compliant. In most cases, compliance is required to resolve your tax situation, so don’t let the annual to-do go unnoticed.
